Sid Sottung: A Clean Cut Life - From New York to Barberism®
See, it went down like this…
It was one of those nights. The kind where the city sweats and a man’s reflection looks back at him like it knows too much.
Captain Fawcett was sitting in a barber’s chair - cracked leather, polished boots, behaving himself… mostly - when he heard the news.
There are barbers who follow the crowd. And there are barbers who lead it.
And that’s where Sid Sottung comes in…

The Real Deal
Razor steady as a surgeon’s hand. Fedora worn just so, Sinatra always playing somewhere in the background. The kind of guy who doesn’t need to raise his voice, who lets his skill do the talking.
Ladies and gentlemen, I present Mr Sid Sottung…
Sid learned his craft the way all good barbers used to: on real heads, with real blades, in real barbershops.
Training in New York City, he absorbed the fundamentals of traditional barbering, straight razor shaving, and the unspoken code of the chair: listen first, cut second.
Sid further honed his skills as a hair stylist, training in precision cutting at Vidal Sassoon, where discipline, structure, and exacting technique are everything. It sharpened his eye, steadied his hand, and reinforced a lifelong respect for clean lines and proper form.
That grounding never left him.
More than 20 years ago, Sid brought that education to the UK, carrying with him the values of classic barbering: clean lines, proper preparation, and doing the job right the first time.
A offer they couldn’t refuse: Barberism® and Captain Fawcett
So when Captain Fawcett met Sid, things were bound to get interesting.
Barberism®, Sid’s Signature Series, wasn’t designed to chase trends. It was made to last. A grooming range inspired by traditional barbershop culture, New York City swagger, and the idea that a man’s grooming should say something before he ever opens his mouth.
It was about products that actually worked, for barbers and for men who care how they present themselves.
The result was Barberism®: Beard Balm, Beard Oil, Moustache Wax, Pre-Shave Oil and Eau De Parfum, grooming essentials built around classic technique, quality ingredients, and inimitable character.
Grooming goods sharp as trouble in a tailored suit. The kind that turn a regular mug into a leading man.
Head of Global Education
Beyond Barberism®, Sid serves as Captain Fawcett’s Head of Global Education, working with barbers across the world to pass on traditional techniques and modern best practice.
From demonstrations and workshops to mentoring professional barbers, Sid’s role has always been about passing knowledge forward, keeping traditional skills alive while adapting them for modern men.
It’s not about nostalgia. It’s about standards.
And walking out looking like a million bucks.
Back in the USA
After two decades in the UK, Sid is now heading back to the United States, settling in South Carolina, but this isn’t a long goodnight.
Sid will continue representing Captain Fawcett stateside, playing a key role in the Captain’s US barbering and men’s grooming adventure.
For Captain Fawcett, it marks an important step forward.
For Sid, it’s a homecoming, with experience sharpened by time.
Same blade
Bigger stage.
Do things the Old-Fashioned Way
Sid Sottung’s story is a reminder that great barbering…and the finest gentleman’s grooming… is never accidental. It’s learned. It’s earned.
A sharp cut can change a man’s fortunes.
What he does with them is up to him…
